Need to turn off TabA7 to do factory reset (lost PIN). How do you turn it off without the PIN?

Have you tried holding the power button and volume down/up button at the same time? Or all 3?

I was able to shut it off by holding all three down.  However, when I hold all three down, to get to a menu that includes the option for a factory reset, it just boots to the home screen.  How do I get to the menu that includes an option for reset?   THANKS!

On further checking, I was not able to get it to shut down because as soon as I touch the power button the home screen to enter a pin appears.  So, I still need help to get it to shut down.  Thanks!

Hey Samsung_BL6wDSB! Thanks for visiting the Community! Letโ€™s get this situated for you and get this tab reset as soon as we can.

Power Off the Device: Ensure your Samsung Tab A7 is completely powered off. If itโ€™s on, press and hold the Power button and volume down button then select Power off.
Enter Recovery Mode: Press and hold the Volume Up button and the Power button simultaneously until the Samsung logo appears, then release both buttons.
Navigate to Wipe Data/Factory Reset: Use the Volume buttons to navigate to Wipe data/factory reset in the recovery menu. Press the Power button to select it.
Confirm the Reset: Use the Volume buttons to highlight Yes and press the Power button to confirm.
Reboot the Device: Once the reset is complete, select Reboot system now using the Power button. Your tablet will restart as if it were brand new

Thanks for not giving up on me!

I hold the power and the volume down button waiting for the Off Button to appear, it just starts rebooting.  When I do get the off button, it still doesn't shut off because it wants my PIN which I don't have.

This is so frustrating!

Holding the power button and the volume down keys does not power down the phone, it reboots it.  It is possible to enter recovery mode from the reboot, but you have to be extremely fast in switching from the volume down to the volume up key upon reboot.  As soon as you see the screen go dark and feel the vibration for the reboot process, move your finger from the volume down key to the volume up key and take your finger off both the volume and power button as soon as you see the Samsung logo on the screen.  It's tricky, so you may have to make several attempts at it.  The other alternative is to let the battery completely discharge, charge it up and then follow the startup procedure of holding the power and volume up key to boot to recovery.

I suggest that if you are successful on the reset that when you create new login credentials, you create multiple methods of entry, so if you forget your pin or password, you still have another means of access.  Also, write your pin or password down somewhere safe (that you will remember where it is), so you can look it up if you forget.

This is an older device.  Did you just buy it used and just set it up with a new pin?  Otherwise, I don't see how one forgets a pin that they've used for several years.

I've tried multiple time to make the switch as soon as the screen goes dark, but I have yet to get it to shut down.  Isn't there just some way to turn it off?

Not unless you let the battery completely discharge.  It's a security measure to prevent someone who may find or steal your device from shutting it down so you can't locate it in the find app.  The goal on the forced reboot is to switch buttons fast enough that you are able to get into recovery mode, not to completely shut down the device.  It is easier to boot into recovery mode from a completely shut down state, but it's also possible (but frustrating) to enter recovery mode from the reboot process - I have done it.
