ART cache corrupted?

Since the update to 8.5 my Fold 7 on android 16 runs app optimization on every single boot.

I looked this up and I saw that it might be caused by a corrupted ART cache.

The way to clear it is supposed to be to wipe the cache partition but of course that option is no longer available since it was removed from recovery mode.

Is there anything I can do besides factory reset? ADB?

This is the 3rd Samsung phone I have had that was basically killed by its own official update.. and the options to "fix" it have never been easy but at least it was possible without losing important data or app data and settings.

Getting really sick of the constant sabotage of official updates that I am forced to install breaking my phone.

It's like being told

"Don't bother changing anything to the way it works best for you because we're going to gut you every few months anyway. Oh, you haven't sold your soul to Google yet? Then you're **bleep** anyway. They're the only ones who can backup everything, so either lose it all or become a recluse hermit who doesn't live in society. Have a nice day." -Your phones REAL owners

You always have the option to manually back up anything important to you, whether to the cloud service of your choice, or an external device so you are protected against mishaps.

Except I wasn't talking about documents or files, but app data, and if you're talking about smart switch, it's little better than a gamble, even when using it with built-in apps like Samsung Notes, it doesn't transfer 100%. To make a backup, to me, means a byte for byte copy of one drive to another, it's a pretty simple idea really, and while it's been harder and harder to accomplish on mobile phones, it didn't require any "leaps of faith", just following instructions properly. Hopes and wishes are now the foremost basis for any long term interaction with every OS but Linux, and it is the opposite of what computing is built for/on/ and of, it's turned into its own antithesis, and that only appears to be getting worse by the day.

If your phone is optimizing every time you reboot it (why are you constantly rebooting it?), that's what it's supposed to do.  It is recommended that you restart your phone once a week to keep it optimized.  You can also download Samsung's Good Guardians and the app booster module to optimize (defragment) your apps.  It is possible that the extensive optimization taking place on your reboots is because your apps are fragmented.  You can download Good Guardians from the Galaxy store.

Btw, the phone's main backup engine (except for photos) is Samsung backup.  The Samsung backup contains all the apps, app data, settings, home screen layout, etc., which you can install en masse or selectively.  It does not store personal data/files. You should turn on "sync with Samsung cloud" in the Notes settings to insure that your Notes are recoverable on other devices or your current device should you reset it.  Making a complete Smart Switch backup to an external device, WILL copy everything that you select, including photos, music and personal data.  Clearing the phone cache partition is no longer necessary as it's self-cleaning on reboot (perhaps that's what all that optimization is about).

First of all, I am not restarting by choice. I did turn on auto-optimization when I first got the device, but, ever since the 8.5 update, my phone seems to have restarted almost every time I pick it up (I know because I have to enter the pin instead of being able to use my fingerprint). Secondly, I am not talking about the "supposed-to's" of Smart Switch, Good Guardians (which I have been using since it was called Galaxy Labs), and Samsung Cloud and it's Backup function, as well as sync, and on everything available except Galaxy Avatars, not just Samsung Notes. I am saying that all of them, or at least most of them simply do not work as advertised. Of course, you SHOULD be able to backup everything with Smart Switch, but the reality is that it just does not consistently do what it's "supposed to" do. Especially if the device in question isn't already in perfect working order.

Seriously? "Data that can't be transferred due to app's policies" Not just not everything, but you can actively expect failure. I take it back, it isn't even supposed to backup everything anymore, as you can see.1782786226407.jpg
