Here's a trick to adjust how you can see your edge panel more for when you need it.
First Open your settings menu by swiping down your notification shade and clicking the gear icon on the top right> next scroll and tap of "display"> then you'll want to scroll and tap on "edge panel"> Last tap on "panel" from here is where you can not only make sure it's on but you can also adjust how transparent, how thick you want the edge panel border so it's easier for you to notice when you need access to it. You can also lock its position in this little sub menu.
