Data sharing problem

After getting this phone and updating to android 16 with UI one 8.0 data sharing was not working

Mobile hotspot must be allowed by your carrier, but it sounds like it used to work for you and no longer does. First try resetting mobile network settings under settings > general management > reset.

If that doesn't work, it seems other users also experienced the same thing after updating to One UI 8. See this post for a potential fix:

It's possible your data had been used up i.e mobile Hotspot also if your using Verizon there was a service issue and some reports other carriers where affected

Total unlimited data/speed

Total Wireless uses the Verizon network for coverage. The outage probably had an effect today.

In any case, try what I previously suggested.
