I swapped from lineage in one plus to a new s23 and I've been enjoying it overall but swiping from the right or left to go back breaks all kinds of apps that use it for navigation. Why not provide a method to swap the assistant and back swipes? Swiping from a corner is both easy and doesn't overlap with other navigation features.

You're using the Google gestures. You can switch to the Samsung gestures under settings>display>navigation bar, which use an up swipe from bottom in three different spots for home back and multi, no edge swipes at all.
You could also install the Good Lock app from the galaxy store, which is a 1st party Samsung customization suite. From there, install the One hand+ module, which will allow you to set custom edge gestures, including a bottom corner up swipe gesture.
