I want to be able to view that I have a notification on my lock screen but not what that notification says until, still on the lock screen, I click on the notification for a preview of what it is.

For example, I receive a WhatsApp notification. I don't want to know what the message says or who it is from unless I press on the WhatsApp icon and it opens.

The same for emails, etc - the notification to be there but its content to be hidden until I press on the icon.

This was possible on the previous version.

No, that doesn't work. When I click on the notification in the lock screen it is requiring me to unlock my phone to see the message. I want to be able to click on the notification, still in the lock screen, to be able to see it.

So you are just wanting it minimized until you click it. I am not sure that this is possible in the current UI. Maybe in a future update.

Use Good Lock's Notistar app and set it to work on lock screen. All notification content is hidden until you tap the notistar icon. You can't, however, only view one notification from a single app, you will see a list of all the notifications you have and ones you have not previously cleared from the app.
