Problem Answering Incoming Calls

Galaxy S24+, model SM-S926U1 fully up to date patches.

Issue for last couple months:

When powered on with Answer set to Tap and screen black (Home screen timed out or turned off), can NOT answer incoming calls unless and only if set to answer with Volume Up button.

The screen wakes up with dialog opened to Answer/Icon/Decline but the screen will not respond to a touch. Only pressing the Volume Up button will answer.

I've tried various Answer options but only the Volume Up setting will wake up the screen and answer an incoming call. It's driving me crazy! Does anyone have ideas?

(If the Home screen is on, no problem answering incoming calls.)

I have purchased apps installed but I don't know if I can get them back (without repurchasing) if I do a backup and factory reset.

I made a full backup to a flash drive. If I wipe and restore, any bets the issue remains? How about the purchased apps?

Inquiring minds want to know! What would you do?

I needs some guidance, please.

I'm sorry you are experiencing this.  I have not had an issue answer calls with a tap when the screen is locked/timed out.  Are you able to answer if you switch it back to swipe, or do you have a total inability to answer calls from the black screen?

 

Did this happen suddenly, or when you first changed the setting?  You might try clearing your phone cache partition.  It will do no harm and may solve the issue.  The screen being off should have no bearing on whether or not you can answer a phone call.

Swipe or tap = no go. Only Volume Up will answer from a dark screen.  Total inability to answer calls from the black screen except for Volume Up button. When waking from dark screen to dialog box the system will not respond to a finger touch/tap.

This condition happened over night. I've had the Answer setting set for months.

I have cleared the cache many times.

You should put in an error report within 15 minutes of attempting to answer a call. Error reporting can be found in the support tab of the members app. Tap the feedback link.

Thank you for the action suggestion. I'll do that to log the error.

But logging doesn't help me now - I would like to answer the phone as I have for a year. Comments on a reset as per my original post?

You can try that if you want. Most people do everything to avoid a reset. Just make sure you have a backup of your personal data. You can try running your phone in safe mode for a day first (or at least until you get a call). If you are able to swipe or tap in safe mode, then it's a program you installed recently interfering.

That's a good idea! I can set it up myself for testing. I'll post back here with results within 24 hrs.

Well that didn't work as the phone will not accept calls when in Safe mode, only texts.

I'll keep trying things.

I THINK I FOUND THE PROBLEM:

...the Samsung dialer!

I changed to the Google one and it is working just fine.

Who would have thought?

As long as you found something that works without having to reset.  I understand the Google dialer has better spam controls (so I've heard).
