You have Google meet for video calls.  Never used it because I don't do video calls, but I hear it works just fine.  It is, in fact, built in.  You also have a built in messaging app - Google messages.  You won't get viruses  if you a) vet the apps you want to download carefully, b) turn on app protection, and/or c) use a third party, reputable malware program such as MalwareBytes.  You can also use WhatsApp for video calls (not built-in or pre-installed, but virus free).  It requires that all parties use WhatsApp.  Most video calling apps require that the called party has the same or a compatible app.

If you want FaceTime and iMessages, go buy an iPhone.

As @AAbbott stated, Google Meet is the FaceTime equivalent for Android devices. Meta Messenger, Whatsapp, Zoom, GroupMe, Teams, and many others also work fine.

Google Messages uses RCS which is compatible with iPhones and gives you ~70% of equivalent features. RCS 4.0 will bring native cross platform video calling in the future. Apple will never, ever allow non-iPhones to use iMessage or have a dedicated FaceTime app. That's not their MO.

You do have built in protection. Play Protect, Auto Blocker, and App Protection (powered by McAfee) are all built into your Samsung phone and turned on by default.1780579065382.jpg1780579316894.jpg1780579395315.jpg

I requested that a long time ago, but it seems that Samsung doesn't want to do it and relies on other companies. However, it would be great if we could get an app from Samsung. Anyway, Samsung is getting rid of their apps in favor of other companies, so it's not going to happen. I highly suggest WhatsApp or Tele-gram; both have very high-quality video calls.

So, because *you* requested it and they didn't do it, it's somehow bad that Samsung chooses to use out of house apps because there's no point in reinventing what's already out there.  Many people don't use video calling, and if they do, there are myriad apps that do it and do it well. Many users are content to use Google meet, as long as they can see the faces of the  people on the other end of the line.  If people don't like the app, for whatever reason, that Samsung/Google included in the operating system, they are free to use something else, as you are already aware.
