Free VPNs are generally not recommended as some come with significant risks that can compromise your online privacy and security. Opting for a paid VPN service is generally the best choice for ensuring a secure and private internet experience without limitations. Free VPN providers often log user data and may sell it to third parties, undermining the privacy they claim to offer.

The best free VPN in my opinion, would be "Proton VPN" due to it's no log policy & strict privacy.

I've heard when a product or service is free, the consumer typically is the product
Which makes me weary of surfshark. It's insanely ridiculously cheap compared to other ones. They've sponsored many tech YouTubers I trust but I just worry that something dishonest is going on that no one knows about.

Very true! Free services might be compelling but they normally harvest user data.

I'll try proton. I was traveling through the UK and wanted to use a VPN. Especially in Asia I recommend using one

I would not recommend any free VPN even Proton paid has some issues with privacy. I would recommend highly "Mullvad" which only has one pay rate no matter, โ‚ฌ5/monthly and there is no other amount or time purchase. Use it for month, then end it or however long. The other two are paid as well;  AirVPN and IPVN. If anonymity is wanted most, then those are the three.  One thing on Mullvad is the user is not locked into a subscription model.
