I am completely dumbfounded why this setting is not turned on by default in Notification Settings and pretty well hidden. To enable categories for all apps do the following:

Go to settings, Notifications, Advanced Settings, Toggle on Manage Notification Categories for each app. Now go to each apps information page by long pressing the app icon, tap in Notifications if the app has different categories there will be down on the bottom Manage notification categories. Some apps have multiples categories.

Example: Without Manage notification categories enabled this is the screen you see in the Members app.

The Members app with Manage notification categories turned on, this is what you see. I have set different tones for different categories in the members app, likes, comments and DM's.

Literally every other Android OEM has notification categories turned on by default. Samsung makes you dig for it.

There is no reasonable explanation that I can think of!

Why does Samsung do anything? We'll never know. One of the burdens of being a Samsung customer.

No reason for this to be a separate setting. When I was in the Beta on my S23 I found it pretty quickly, others in the Beta didn't. They went ballistic!

@DogGoneIt1989 Just FYI, Samsung made this change a year ago. If you are moving from an older OS/UI or a different Android I can see how this would be unexpected.

Thank you.

Regarding the unexpected nature of this change, I am fully cognizant of the modification introduced with the release of Ui6.1, commencing with the S24 series. This feature was initially disabled by default and was not readily discoverable. Upon the subsequent rollout of Ui6.1 to other devices, the default setting remained off.

Prior to the Ui6.1 update, notification categories were a standard default setting. However, with the installation of Ui6.1, all customized notification sounds for these categories were eliminated, superseded by a new feature referred to as "advanced settings." For some users, this change proved to be quite disruptive, particularly due to the difficulty in locating this new setting within their device.

To this day,. there are many that do not know this setting exists, ergo my post.
