Galaxy Note PhonesGoogle Messages list all data that is in the app, which consists of all photos, videos, messages, emoji's any any other trivial things in your texts, not to mention the texts themselves.
The only way I believe this so called chart from who knows where is for you to provide screenshots of both apps storage page from app info.

Galaxy Note PhonesAnd it reminds me of the settlement where google promised its users that it they turned off location in the settings that data wouldn't be collected....it absolutely was collected. The google messages ai is still in the app. Just wait a few years and we'll see a lawsuit about how not only their AI scanned everything (even while users turned it off) but also that the RCS "encryption" is not encrypted like the current WhatsApp lawsuit

Galaxy Note PhonesGemini is not NEEDED to run Google messages, it's an add on for those who want the assistance. Gemini is baked into Android, so if you want no Gemini, I suggest you abandon Android entirely. Although I'm sure Apple's AI is/will be just as intrusive.

Galaxy Note PhonesFrom all I've read, it seems even if Gemini is disabled, google messages app has its own Gemini to scan incoming messages. All the "smart" features on the app make the app take up more space.
If simple mobile games can easily take up 2gb I can see why a messages app with AI, RCS, and smart featured would take 1-2gb

Galaxy Note PhonesWho is "they"? Google Messages does not use AI unless you want it to. You can turn off Gemini in messages and never see it or use it.
