Hello
My phone is Samsung S20 FE.
I have this problem with Smart Switch PC, the last time I made a backup copy, it doesn't write to the phone number folder. Everything was fine before.
I reset the phone, reinstalled the program but it didn't help.
My wife's phone Samsung A 33 5G has the same problem.
Thank you.

Thanks for your help
I now understand that this is not a problem with my phone or computer. You are right, they changed the truth.
Thanks.

What do you mean?  Your contacts are not being transferred? Or are you saying that your backup is not being saved to the location you expect it to be?  I believe, just like any other download, you have to direct it to the folder where you want it.  If you don't, Smart Switch will most likely create a new folder for any subsequent backups.

No, everything is set up correctly, the problem is that the program does not write to the folder with the phone number, but creates a new folder without registering my phone number. I think that my phone number is not registered in Smart Switch PC.
Thank you.

Did you check the app preferences?  With the phone connected, tap the dot menu on the upper right and select preferences.  Make sure the location is pointing to the folder you want otherwise it will make a new subfolder for each subsequent backup.  If you want it to overwrite your previous backup, you would change the preference to the same folder as the prior backup was in.  Some people prefer to have multiple backups so they can go back to one they know was trouble free, and some people prefer to overwrite the previous backup to save drive space.  The default save location is users/documents/samsung/smartswitch.  You can change it to anywhere you want or you can make it users/documents/samsung/smartswitch/(phone name). This way it will always write to the same folder, however, if you are saving backups for two devices on the same computer, you may want to just let it make the additional folders and then delete the backups you no longer want.  It's much easier that way.

You still don't understand that the problem is not in the path to the folder, the problem is that it creates a folder without specifying my phone number.
I will explain how the generation of folders works by the specified path. Smart Switch creates a folder by specifying the phone model with the phone number and in this folder it creates backup folders with date indication.
In the picture you can see that it creates a folder without specifying my phone number. Normally it should write to the folder SM-G781U_17739хххххх, but the program simply creates a new folder SM-G781U_ .
Thank you.

You know you can change folder names.  Or just leave it as what it named it.  It shows the date the backup was made, so you know which is which. I don't know why it's not picking up your phone ID, it should.  As long as both you and Smart Switch can locate and identify your backup, does it really make a difference what it's named? What is it naming the backup?

It is important to me that my daughter has the same phone, and my data and hers are recorded in the same pile.

I can't help with that, as I believe the switch to giving Microsoft control of the PC app they decided to not add the phone number to the backup name. The only thing I can suggest is to change the file path before you back up each device so that each person's backup is in a different folder. It really does not appear to make any allowance for people who may have multiples of the same device, like families. Another idea would be to buy two flash drives and keep your backup on one drive and hers on another and skip the PC entirely. You can get USB-C drives or regular USB drives and a USB adapter. You need drives at least the size if your phone's storage capacity. You might want to send feedback to Samsung telling them this change is inconvenient for you.

Oh, I see.  My SmartSwitch  backups only add my phone number to the one backup folder then creates a subfolder with the model number and backup date.  I guess that's just its naming convention. In my backup list in the app, however, it names my phone backups by name and date: Exxxx's A54. I think actually with the updated app, they decided not to add the phone number, as I have one backup created in December with my phone number attached, and today's backup does not have the phone number attached.  Today's backup was with the new version.
