And despite claims of bluetooth backwards compatibility, in practice it doesn't always work that way, as seemingly every OEM bluetooth implementation is different. Every time there's a new phone release we see issues with phones connecting to (older) car bluetooth systems. In nearly every case, it's the car system that is outdated and needs to be updated.
