I am very disturbed with the Google Messaging switch. I tried it & it does NOT compare to Samsung Messaging! The RCS feature is not needed. Sure one can send emoji responses on a message like iPhone but if that's what one desires, GET AN IPHONE! It only works when the receiving party uses the same RCS feature on their Android phone anyway. The overall features on the Samsung Messaging app has way more personal customization features that make each & every chat/group more visible & organized. I will stick with Samsung Messaging until forced to switch on ALL platforms.

Samsung Messages used to have a native RCS toggle, giving users control over how they wanted to message.
That option has now been removed.
As a result, it no longer receives RCS messages โ€” including 1:1 chats and group conversations.
They say not until July, but this effectively forces the switch NOW

No one is forcing you to transfer to Google. You can choose whatever app you want that you like better.

Seriously? So why is the switch message so deliberate with a date?

That's the date Samsung Messages will shut down. They're urging people to go to Google but you can go to the play store and pick whichever messaging app you want.

Infrastructure and resources.

SMS/MMS are 20+ year old messaging protocols. On modern devices, universal RCS support is required to achieve optimal interoperability.

Samsung messages relies primarily on legacy (carrier) implementations of RCS and is largely incompatible with the modern universal RCS profile/Jibe.

In addition to universal RCS as a motivator, it is highly likely that Samsung views their messaging app as redundant and a poor allocation of resources.

They are shutting in down most likely because they don't want to continue developing the app when they are so many other options to choose from.
