After Update Not Receiving Text Notfication Sounds

Has anyone stopped receiving notification sounds when using Google messenger? Updated the device and no longer get sounds. The message comes through but no sound. I checked the volume and made sure do not disturb is turned off. I do get notification sounds from other apps but not from messenger anymore. Any ideas?

@theblackcobra Have you verified that notification sounds are enabled for Google messages?

Go to phone settings -> Notifications -> App notifications -> Messages and ensure that Sound and vibration is enabled.

@LongHiker yes checked that and sound and vibration is enabled.

In that same area (phone settings -> Notifications -> App notifications -> Messages), click on Notification categories and ensure that Allow notifications and Incoming messages are enabled. 

You can also click on Incoming messages and ensure that it is set to Alert and the Sound selected is a valid one and not silent.

@LongHiker I do not see "Notification Categories" I am attaching a screenshot. Interesting enough when I was on device with screen on i received texts and the notification sounds. However, when screen times out the sound is not given but text message is still received. So how to fix this?

@theblackcobra Open phone settings -> Notifications, click on Advanced settings. Enable the option "Manage notification categories for each app".

I'm on your thread hoping but i still don't have sound for notifications. They will only vibrate and Samsung support sent me to to get the phone checked. The guy came out and said he was baffled because he didn't know. It will play sound but only when I have my Bluetooth in my ear

If you are only getting notification sounds through your ear buds, sounds like you may be using sound assistant and have it set for alerts through headphones.  However, this setting only activates if you actually have a BT headphone connected.  All other times, you should be getting notifications through the phone's speaker.  Do you have notification categories turned on and notifications sounds set for the various categories in the various apps?

Notifications are turned on. The problem is the list of sounds under notification where you select your notification sounds anytime you touch one it just vibrates it doesn't play a sound

Some setting is directing your notifications to your BT device even if you are not connected to it. We have to find out which setting. What earphones are you using?
