Hi, is there any possibility of a new update for Samsung S20 FE 5G? I know the device is end of life, but an update is needed to give access to 5G.

After extensive troubleshooting and pointless calls to Fido's technical support I have finally figured out why my phone won't connect to their new 5G network. Fido's CSC (FMC) has not been updated on my phone since the 5G network went live. I believe my last update was in Oct. So unless my phone gets a new update to Fido's CSC allowing 5G, I will forever be stuck with LTE service on a 5G device.

I know of others who are within the S20 family that are stuck in the same situation.

Your phone reached end-of-life in November 2025 after receiving 5 years of software support. The final security update was October 2025. Unless there's a major security issue and Google/Samsung put out another patch, you won't see any more updates.

I understand that, but I feel like having a proper connection to a carrier should be priority. Its not like it would be a major change in software. I'd really not rather have to go the custom firmware route and honestly I don't think I should. I paid for a phone with 5G, I should have that capability available to me.

Sounds more like a carrier issue than a Samsung issue

Nope, I've tested this myself. Its how the CSC is programmed into the phone. If I switch my CSC to RWC(Rogers) my phone will connect to Fido's 5G network. The problem is Samsung phones force a reset when it notices a discrepancy. I get locked into the "New sim card" screen with only the ability to reset. Once the reset happens the phone provisions back to Fido's CSC

Also, isn't Fido a Canadian carrier? This is the US Samsung Members community. All discussion here is tailored to US-specific devices and carriers. You may be better served posting in the Canadian community:

Didn't think it mattered, but thanks I'll try there.

The chances of someone else having dealt with this same issue are much higher in the Canadian community than here. Good luck.

Of course it matters, Canadian carriers vs US carriers. We in the US have no clue what Canadian carriers do to Samsung phones.

This post was more or less to bring it to Samsung's attention, so I'll be posting in many places. But thanks for the feedback.
