Hello userfT1ef70TXJ, welcome to the Community. I can understand the cursor jumping could be annoying when trying to type. First, try clearing your device's cache partition. You can do so by following these steps:
• Ensure the device is powered off. If the device is unresponsive/frozen, press and hold the Power button for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles.
• Press and hold the Volume Up button and the Home button.
• While continuing to hold the Home and Volume Up buttons, press and hold the Power button until 'RECOVERY BOOTING' appears in the upper left then release all buttons.
• Select wipe cache partition. Utilize the Volume Up/Down buttons to highlight and the Power button to select.
• Select reboot system now. Option is highlighted, utilize the Power button to select.

Next, you can check your keyboard and its settings, using this guide: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshooting/TSG01209532/

If the troubleshooting is not helpful, the phone will need to be evaluated by a certified technician. For service in the U.S., you can take the phone to a local U.S. walk-in service location https://www.ubreakifix.com/samsung or to ship the phone in for service, please reach out to us via one of the following options: 1. I have the exact same problem. It only happens using Samsung Messages when I'm trying to type a text message, either a reply or a new message. I can only type a couple of letters before the cursor jumps back to the beginning text. If I move it back, I can get in about 2 or 3 more letters, then it jumps back to the beginning again. Sometimes, it just closes the keyboard, too, but it retains what I had been trying to type.

If I manage to type out a complete text, it doesn't send the first time I try, but does when I resend. This is REALLY annoying and weird.

The only workaround I've found is to type the text in some other app, then copy and paste it into the message box and send it that way.

I tried downloading and using Gboard, but it happens with that, too. I can type just fine in all other apps (internet, search, etc.). It only happens in Samsung Messages. I've cleared the cache, both on the phone generally and in the message app. I've also turned off every feature I can think of in both messages and the keyboard app. My phone is a Note 8 and is updated.

This happened for the first time about a month ago, and I think it might be related to updating to the new Samsung Wearable app for my Gear 2 watch. I had been using the Gear app before that. It seemed to sort itself out after I powered off both the phone and my Gear 2 watch and charged them overnight.

I just bought a Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and things were fine for about a day, but now the cursor problem is happening again. I've tried everything I can think of, including powering off both devices and charging them overnight, like I did the first time. But that didn't work and nothing else I've tried fixes the problem.

EDIT to update:

Today I tried - again - turning off both the watch and the phone and letting them charge until they were at 100%. Then I restarted just the phone and tried texting. It worked. I tried it again and again for about a half hour and it still worked. So, I tried turning on the watch and then texting again and it worked. I have NO idea why it suddenly works, but once again it seems to have sorted itself out, just like the first time a month ago. Very strange but at least it's working again. I put all my settings back to what they were before and it's still allowing me to text normally. Go figure.
