Text appear as message icons that won't download

My Samsung a13 5G frequently fails to send a text or receives some kind of download that cannot be downloaded. When this happens on a group text it Separates Me from other members of the group. Then I have to ask the sender to resend whatever they sent me in order to read it. This happens sporadically. Can anyone tell me how to eliminate this.

Are you using Google messages check your settings on group texts

I don't know I think it's Samsung text, the default. The only setting I can find for group chat is in multimedia category under settings and it is turned on.

I get to that request to sign in on Google all the time but I always ignore those

On Samsung messages should have simular setting or option for group messages

When I go to messages and settings there is no Google Avatar. So I believe that means I am not using Google messaging. I'm using the default that came installed on my phone. The only even vaguely relevant setting that I see under multimedia messages is for group conversations to be on or off. I'd like them to remain on of course. I suspect the problem is related more to my carrier, that being Page Plus cellular which is somehow connected with TracFone and Verizon
