Got a new/replacement device, and I'm trying to set it up. I'm trying to add an account to my Gmail. It's on my old phone and I have no issues with it and it was no big deal to add. On the new phone, when I go through the steps, it goes to "verifying server" and it always comes back with that message, "security not guaranteed". It's an IMAP email address. I've tried changing the security settings and I get the same error message every time. I've cleared the cache. I've tried doing it through apps settings on my phone as well as through the Gmail app, nothing works and I'm about to tear my hair out. I tried setting it up manually, and that didn't work. Anybody got any suggestions?. Thx.

@userVHiCoaAiRN That means that the service providing that account that you are adding to Gmail doesn't use the best security available. It's basically letting you know that the other service needs to upgrade their security.

That's helpful but it doesn't solve my problem. I still can't add that account. I've tried changing the security I've tried rebooting the phone I tried clearing the cache and the data, nothing works.

@userVHiCoaAiRN Have you tried manually entering info for the account?

Have you tried both port options?

  • Port 143 is the old default port and doesn't use encryption
  • Port 993 is the secure port. It provides TLS/SSL encryption
