Hi all… my son got a new Flip 5 but we are having issues with the Navigation bar.  The navigation bar disappears on us and we cannot get it back without rebooting the phone.  We’ve tried

1. Going to settings and toggling between gesture and buttons.

2. Resetting all settings.

It seems to happen a different times, but we can force it to happen by opening apps and then physically closing the the phone.  When we close it the buttons are there but when we open it back up the buttons are gone.

Any thoughts?

Ryan

Hi Ryan, Welcome to the Community. We understand how frustrating it can be to have the navigation bar disappear.

Have you tried testing the phone in Safe Mode to see if an app is causing the bar to disappear? https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00062983/

We also recommend submitting an error report to provide data to the developers. https://www.samsung.com/ae/support/mobile-devices/raising-an-error-report-via-samsung-members-app/

If the behavior occurs in safe mode, we recommend having the phone evaluated at an authorized service location. You can use the following link to find a list of service centers in the U.S. that can do the repair: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/location or by contacting customer support at 1-800-726-7864.

For assistance outside the U.S., please use this link: https://www.samsung.com/us/common/visitlocationsite.html

Try seeing if these steps do anything to rectify this. With the phone turned off, press + hold power and volume up buttons until the Samsung logo disappears. Using volume keys, highlight Wipe cache partition, and then power to select and confirm. Returning to the previous menu, use volume to navigate to Repair apps, and then power again to select and confirm if necessary. This will reindex all apps on your phone.

Thanks for the reply.  That did not seem to fix the issue.

Have you attempted factory resetting and restoring the device yet? That usually fixes most annoying bugs.

We restored it last night and it worked for a little while and the issue came back.

We noticed today that if we let the screen timeout happen then the navigation bar stays.  If we lock it it goes away.

I would take the phone to your carrier for some hands on assistance.

Glad I'm not the only one.   I did run it by the AT&T store and their sales folks had no idea.
