I have come to hate Samsung notifications for two reasons. First, the only way to clear notifications or badges is to go through the notification screen. Even if you go into the app and address the reason they don't clear. Second, when you gwt a notification, it takes alot of work to figure out why. When you go into the app there are no breadcrumbs, highlights, or other indicator for the reason you were notified. This is basic stuff and can be very frustrating.

I have a 1 flag on my calendar. I open calendar. There's nothing to tell me why. Its because there's something out in the notification screen. I have to go out there to dismiss it. Silly. I was just in the app.

Have you ever been able to clear a notification while within the calendar app? I'm trying to think of all the notifications I get between text, alarms, tasks, calendar and I'm sure there are others. I don't remember any one of them where I could be in the app and clear the notification. I believe the notification is completely separate from the app all the app does is trigger the notification, that's why you have to clear it from the notification screen. If I'm wrong, please someone correct me.

Just turn off notifications on settings.

Try this: go into your home screen settings, then go down to app icon badges. Choose to show notifications on app icons, and then all you need to do is long press that icon when there is a notification badge on it and swipe the notification away from the icon. You wouldn't have to clear it from the notification shade if you don't want to.

Long press app icons on home screen or in app drawer and a pop-up will show latest notification. You can swipe that notification away. If there are more notifications, they will appear. If not move on to the next app.

You can also check to make sure your settings are correct for the notifications you are looking for. In settings >apps> (name of app) scroll down to notifications, slide toggle on or off depending on your preferences for said app. From there you have more options if you turn notifications on for the app. Pop-up, badges, sounds, type of pop-up. Make your choices and you should be good. If you want details in your notifications you can choose to have the notification panel include information and choose pop-up with more information. Also, if you are swiping or using the clear button on the notification tray and still have notifications you are not sure which app or why an app sent a notification, turn on notification history in settings then go to notification history and see all of the notifications and which app sent them for the last day.
