I did a force stop on the app then opened it and the camera started working again

Hello,
Have you check if the app has permissions enabled for accessing your physical cameras?
To do it:
1. Open Settings.
2. Scroll down to Apps.
3. Look for Camera app.
4. Click on Permissions (3rd option).
5. Make sure that all permissions are on, specially Camera.
I left a screenshot for your reference, hope this helps you.

Hold down the camera app, then go to storage, then clear data and clear cache. It should now work
