Change the background for individual call contacts

Been playing around the a little while after the update, need some help with two things, first, how do you change the background for individual call contacts? And I noticed that the app icons in the notification panel drop down are barely recognizable, any help would be appreciated!

Thanks but that part I already had, I was under the impression with the new update I could set a different background for individual contacts

Go into each contact and tap the edit option. There you can customize the contact background after you expand the lower options.
