Galaxy S21

My galaxy s21 started having problems a few months ago with being able to deposit checks through apps from my 2 different banks. One has a problem taking pictures of the check that the app will accept, and the other bank app shuts down when I tap on their "deposit" button. Any insight is appreciated.

This would be an app related issue for your respective banks. what I recommend is clearing the cache memory under app management. If that doesn't help I would try deleting the apps and reinstalling them.

Tried that for both apps. Didn't work.

I also called both banks and they told me to do the same, which I've tried already.

You know, I was thinking it might be a permissions problem. Go into your app manager and turn all permissions to allow. Also, make sure location is on. If this doesn't work, then the app is still definitely the problem. I would assume they would come out with an update fix eventually, but I would try to reach out to the app developer and let them know you're having this error. Apps really have nothing to do with the phone, so it's definitely not the phone. I personally use Chase and have no problems.

You are using an S21, which Android version are you on? Are you still getting monthly security updates? It is possible that your banking apps no longer consider your phone secure enough to perform certain functions.

That's actually my biggest concern. Even though the 2 bank apps require Android versions 6.0 and 9.0, and the galaxy s21 has an Android version of 13, the Android security patch level hasn't been updated since April 21, 2023. And, it does say my software is up to date, which is discouraging. May need to get a newer galaxy s.šŸ™1743341861456.jpg

You don't *have* to go with an S series if you are on a budget (unless you get a really good trade in deal, or a good deal from your carrier).  I find the banking apps' functionality is the surest indicator of when one needs to upgrade their phones, as they stop working properly when they detect unsecure devices and stop updating to their latest versions.

Actually, though, it doesn't make much sense that the one bank app WILL let me pay bills FROM my account, but won't let me deposit checks INTO my account? Hmm.
