I have bought a used Galaxy S22 Ultra.

It has a problem with the s-pen.

The s-pen seems to work OK for basic functions. You can tap and write free-form on the screen. You can see the see the Air View preview circle on the screen when you hold the s-pen tip within 10mm of the screen.

However the phone constantly complains that the s-pen is missing. Frequent popups appear to remind me that my s-pen is still missing. The phone does not recognise when the s-pen is inserted or removed.

The s-pen button cannot be used as a camera remote shutter release. The s-pen button does not seem to work for anything.

I am puzzled that some functionality works but other functionality does not.

I don't know of the there is a defect in the phone or in the s-pen or if the s-pen battery is not charging or whether the s-pen belongs to a different phone.

Is there a way to 'pair' and s-pen with an galaxy phone if the pen that is with phone belongs to another phone?

Hello! I can certainly understand your s pen not working fully being frustrating. As far as the missing s pen error goes, you can turn those notifications off by going to Settings, advanced features, s pen, click air actions to off.

For the S Pen not being able to do certain gestures, try these troubleshooting steps (http://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshooting/TSG01001830/).

If after trying these and you're still having the issue I would suggest having a certified technician take a look at it.

You can use the following link to find a list of service centers in the U.S. that can do the repair: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/location or by calling customer support at 1-800-726-7864. For service outside of the U.S., please use this link: https://www.samsung.com/us/common/visitlocationsite.html  I do apologize for any inconvenience.

This is typical of a non samsung s-pen. What likely happened is the previous user likely lost their s-pen and purchased a cheaper knock off one because they didn't want to shell out the $50 that the official ones cost. This is a very common occurrence. The knock off s-pens typically don't have Bluetooth functions so this would explain the button not working and possibly some of the other issues. I'm not sure if this is possible but you might be able to disable the Bluetooth functions in order to stop getting the notifications of the pen missing. I know for a fact you can disable the missing notification but not sure if it will get rid of all the issues your having. Your best bet is to just purchase a official s-pen if you use the s-pen a lot because I have heard the knock off ones are no where near as accurate or responsive as the legit ones. Just my two cents. Good luck with getting this sorted.
