Confusion About "Auto Back Up While Roaming" in Samsung Cloud (One UI 6.1)

Hi everyone,

I recently came across some confusion regarding the "Auto back up while roaming" setting in Samsung Cloud on One UI 6.1 and was hoping to get some clarification.

On Samsung’s official support page (link), under Backup Options, it states:

"Turn on the switch next to 'Auto back up while roaming' to have your device back up data automatically once every 24 hours when the screen is off and the phone is connected to Wi-Fi and charging."

To me (and likely many other users), "roaming" typically refers to mobile data roaming—using a foreign network while traveling. However, the explanation on Samsung’s website makes it sound like this setting refers to Wi-Fi roaming (switching between Wi-Fi access points).

This seems contradictory because I’ve always understood "Auto back up while roaming" as enabling backups over mobile data while roaming internationally, not something related to Wi-Fi connections. If that’s the case, the description on the support page could be misleading.

Can anyone confirm what this setting actually does? Does it control mobile data roaming backups, or is Samsung really referring to Wi-Fi roaming?

I am not asking out of mere curiosity—this question is directly relevant to my work, and I want to ensure accurate information regarding Samsung Cloud’s backup behavior. If a moderator could clarify this officially, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I just keep that setting off. When I am traveling, my phone backs every night up as long as I am connected to wi-fi (even in airplane mode with mobile data turned off).  Even if it didn't, I'm unlikely to make major changes while traveling, so if I miss a few backups it's not a big deal, an older backup will suffice to restore if something happens. Unless your data (documents and downloads) is being backed up independently, they are not contained in the cloud backups anyway.
