I tried posting on Google help and they did nothing. I can't be the only one experiencing this issue, I just don't think people are aware of it. If I watch YouTube for 30+ minutes my phone becomes hot and the battery is very quickly depleted. I did some troubleshooting with Samsung dev tools and discovered the YouTube mobile app is causing GPU overdraw. In browser, YouTube is not doing this. I can watch entire movies in browser, no heat no battery drain. I feel bad for people who are just sitting there letting their phone burn up and battery die. It never did that until a few months ago. Still not fixed.

I'm actually worried this bug is harming the life of the phone because it gets so hot and kills the battery so quickly. I can play GTA San Andreas definitive mobile on max settings and it doesn't cause the same to happen.

Red = huge overdraw in YouTube app, burning up the GPU and destroying battery life.

Blue = YouTube in mobile chrome browser, nice and cool, not killing battery.

Thank you. I hope this may finally get resolved. I just stopped using the YouTube app for months. Very disappointed when I saw it was still happening today.

What developer setting are you using to get the overlay?

It's in Samsung developer tools. If you have dev options enabled, it's settings > developer options > scroll down to "hardware accelerated rendering" section and select debug GPU overdraw and check "show overdraw areas." You have to go back into dev options and manually turn it off too.1744588289270.jpg

Alright. I believe it's a YouTube app issue rather than a Samsung issue, the problem is that it seems to be impossible to contact YouTube or Google to fix the bug. Samsung on the other hand is awesome. I reported a super minor flaw to them about the calendar and a fix was rolled out like a week later!!! I'm hoping maybe they can get Google to fix their app. Lol

Yes, most likely an app problem if this is happening on multiple platforms.

On a side note, Samsung people treat us so good and all I see is people complaining about updates rn. ā˜ ļø

I have the same issue from my s24 ultra and now with my s25 ultra. The phone gets extremely hot after minutes or hours watching youtube and that's abnormal.I don't have that issue with other android phone and my iphone so it's really weird and mothing is done to fix.

Interesting. I figured the problem might be on YouTubes end, but there must be some conflict with the newer Samsung phones and the YouTube app. I just hope it will be fixed soon. q_q

Tbh, that's good news if it's on Samsungs end, because I don't think Google cares enough to fix it.
