This issue is something I experienced in the last couple of weeks.
Google maps drops the destination when I connect to android auto. No matter how many times I try to punch in the destination, it drops within 2 mins.
I cleared the cache, restarted app checked to see if there are updates in play store. Nothing helps.
I tried waze too. Behavior is pretty much the same. Anyone experienced this behavior?
This is so frustrating. If I cannot figure this out, I've no choice but to get rid of the device for something else.
BTW I tried my wife's iPhone. No issues everything works as expected.

I would suggest contacting Google Maps support community since they are the ones that control Android Auto and Google Maps

Thanks for taking time. I thought of the same. If the problem is with Google maps, why does waze behave the same way?

Google owns Waze and are using some the same software now from what I've heard.  And it could be with Android Auto could be a issue since your wifes Iphone works it use Carplay and not Android Auto

Android Auto had a recent update. Try uninstall the update from the play store and try it. If it fixes then install the update and the problem comes back it's the update. If it fixed after doing that then the update caused a bug which was rectified by redoing the update.
