I briefly switched to a 3rd party sms app but it wasn't working with android auto so I made Messages my default again on BOTH my S24 Ultra (primary device) and S6 Lite galaxy tablet.

I re-enabled call and text on other devices on my S24 and the toggle for my S6 tablet is enabled. It is the only device besides the phone I use for texting.

When I go into Settings > accounts > my Samsung account > sync account

Messages isn't listed here in either device. I can't sync messages between devices and I know I had been able to because I did it a month ago when messages were missing on he tablet.

There is also no icon to manually start an account sync on either device, and again, there had one because that's how I specifically synced only the messages on the tablet.

How do I get messages to show up in my Samsung cloud account and start syncing again?

@KJ W There is both Google Messages and Samsung Messages. I'm guessing that you are referring to Samsung Messages.

Once you select Settings > accounts > my Samsung account > sync account  you will see at the top of the screen that this says "Sync settings". This doesn't sync the data of those item, only the settings.

I don't recall seeing a manual sync. I happen to be using Google messages on my phone (and watch), but Samsung Messages on my Tab S9+. The messages on my tablet are staying in sync with the ones on my phone.

Samsung messages used to show in my Samsung cloud account, now it's not there. It can't sync between devices if it isn't there. I used the manual sync about a month ago, so it did exist.

@KJ W Maybe you were referring to the backup setting?

  1. Open the phone settings
  2. Click on Accounts and backup
  3. Click on Back up data under the Samsung Cloud heading.
  4. Here you will find Messages and other items. This does backup the items to Samsung Cloud.
  5. Then on the tablet go to phone settings -> Accounts and backup -> Restore data
