You can try a couple of pieces of troubleshooting: 1. Check to make sure it is on the most recent app version. 2. Clear the app's cache/data: open device settings (cogwheel icon)>Apps>Maps>storage>clear cache/data>restart phone. 3. Uninstall/reinstall app. Also, there was an issue last night with the latest update of the Google app due to a software bug that had the app force closing itself so if you continue to have issues with Google Maps after trying these troubleshooting steps you may want to apply them to the Google app as well.
