I posted this bug right after the s24 release but now I can't find the original post and it is still not fixed 6 months later.
I don't think it's anything unique with my set up but somebody else who has the s view cover with a Samsung s24 Ultra can tell me if they see the same thing happening.
If you close the cover and say something like hey Google what's the weather out like today? The assistant starts to answer and then cuts out. Every time. It took me a while to figure out why it works sometimes and other times it doesn't. If you wait for the screen time out to hit ( auto lock with screen turned off) then it works again. If you lock the phone with the side button before closing the cover it works fine. It's only that in between time when you close the cover and wait for it to lock automatically based on whatever setting you have that it doesn't work.
If there's another place to report this bug please let me know.
Thanks I will try, but I don't agree and think it's specific to the s24. The s22 and s20v were basically the same thing and I had my s23 still before trade in at the time I got my s24 and noticed this problem. It didn't happen on the s23 ever. Functionality due to closing the cover is specific to the Samsung software/firmware.
I have unfortunately experienced the same exact problem as you,with my s24 ultra and no different with my s23 ultra and the SView case. Did you already submit to Google and either in a ticket or in one of their forums?
Yes, I did a big report to Samsung. Definitely a Samsung issue. If you have it with S23 Ultra (which I didn't) it is likely from a common code update like One UI 6.1 or Android 14 could be involved if the S23 got that upgrade.
Thanks for the reply. Yes, sounds like you're correct. I suspect they have prohibited some upper levels of handshaking with other apps outside of Android core, and sadly, whatever status the device takes on when the cover is closed is a check status that is required for Google Assistant command execution. I'm able to speak the initial command and I do get a response from the assistant, but it does not allow me to answer back and commit the command, until I open the cover.
Read closer what I wrote. As long as the phone is locked it works fine with the cover closed. So make your time out small or just press the button before you close the cover which is what I usually do and it always works. Otherwise wait the 15 seconds or whatever your timeout is when it lacks and then it works also. Very minor annoyance but it took me a really long time to figure out what it was
