You can still install it from the Galaxy Store and set it as your default messaging app if you prefer to use that over Google.

Samsung is gradually replacing Samsung Messages with Google Messages, which is why it's not pre-installed anymore. All in the name of RCS though Samsung Messages app supports it. As @KnightRiderRalph said, you can still install it, but it's a matter of time before it's removed permanently.

If your messaging app does not have an icon on your home screen, put it there. If you get a text and can access it, it's on your phone. Go to your spps drawer (swipe up on the screen) and locate Google Messages (or messages), long press it and click on add to home.
