Spotify doesn't automatically play after update

Before the recent update, I could turn my car on and my phone would automatically connect via Bluetooth and seamlessly start playing music from spotify. 

 
After the November update, the Bluetooth connects, but spotify does not automatically play anymore until i manually start it. 
 
Is there anyway to fix this or has anyone else been experiencing this?

Try wiping the Spotify app cache. Go to device settings > apps > Spotify > storage > clear cache.
I would also check the settings of Spotify.

I don't think this has anything to do with spotify as a couple weeks ago this never happened

Yes, you could be right. But clearing the Spotify app cache is still a possible fix. Also, another option, since this started after the update, I would try clearing the phone's cache partition. This is sometimes successful if users are experiencing issues after a recent update on their device.

Clearing the cache partition is safe and won't remove your settings or app files. It clears unnecessary files, some of which may be corrupt.

Follow the steps below, If you wish to go ahead:

Clear the cache partition
- Turn phone off (shut down)
- Press and hold the Volume Up key, then press and hold the Side key.
- When the Android system recovery menu options show release buttons.
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
- Press Side key to select.
- Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, then press the Side key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
