Galaxy watch capabilities with older galaxy models?

Is the new galaxy watch 4 compatible with galaxy 9? I'd hate to buy a new phone for it.

As long as your phone is updated it shouldn't be a problem check samsung website for information

No need to worry about it, the Samsung Website says "Android 7 or later" you'll be fine.
