Notifications are horrible and unreliable.

I come from many years of Garmin watches.  I picked up Galaxy Watch Ultra and the notifications are poor and unreliable.  I almost always get the live notification as the screen pop up, but the orange notification dot (which is WAAAAY too small) only shows up about 5% of the time.  Pretty much it never shows up.  On Garmin watches you can get a display of a total of how many missed notifications you have as opposed to an unreliable too small dot.  Also, if I swipe a notification away on my watch it disappears from my phone, never to be seen again.  All of this is just a really poor implementation of notifications on the watch.

I bought this watch because it was supposed to have better smartphone features, but its miserably failing in that realm.

And before people ask - the watch and phone are updated and I've rebooted both.  Notifications are turn on for all the apps

Any ideas before I return it?

Maybe it's designed to not want the user to interact much with the watch? Seems strange if you're not happy, then return it sorry.

Huh?  My point is that the notifications don't work reliably.  I don't think it has anything to do with interacting with the watch.  I just thought I'd check here and see if there was some solution I'm missing before I return it

Think you're expecting the watch to be same as Garmin

To a degree perhaps, but I think I'd be ok with it if the notification dot at least showed up reliably.  I suppose this is half a commentary on poor implementation of the notification system as well as the unreliability of it.

Can I expect notifications to work reliably?

I would think that notifications should be reliable but as with anything it may not be without a issue where a update is needed

Of course the notifications disappear from the phone if you swipe them away on the watch.  It's a feature, not a flaw.  I do not want to see a notification twice, so I appreciate that if I dismiss a notification on my watch, I don't have to also dismiss it from my phone (or vice versa).  The notification will stay on the watch if you view it, but the notification dot will disappear and only reappear with a new notification.  If you do not dismiss it from the watch, it will still show on  your phone and watch, so you do not have to remember that you viewed a notification on your watch.  Also, notifications do not disappear forever from the phone.  If you go to your phone settings/notifications/advanced settings, you will see a section for notification  history.  You also have the option to download Good Lock and the Notistar module which, I believe, will keep your notification history.  I don't know about you, but I have no reason to keep a notification once I viewed it, whether on the watch or the phone.
