When my Galaxy Watch Ultra was on UI 7.xx, I was able to block my message content on my Galaxy phone, yet still see it on my watch (which is what I preferred). When I updated to Watch UI 8, the watch displays "New message" instead of the message content. I also tried to display messages on my phone (I changed the phone settings) to see if the watch would mirror it, yet it still displays "New message" instead of the content. Has anyone else had this issue?

So, we have now determined that the issue is with Samsung Messages. Send feedback to Samsung, but I doubt it will amount to anything, since they really want to let go of the app. Since both apps are just shells, what would happen if you used Samsung messages on the phone, but kept the notifications on for Google messages?

Not sure if I'd receive my notifications

You could try. Before I turned off notifications for Samsung messages, which I didn't use, and turned on Google which I did, was getting notifications on the watch in Samsung messages. Took me a minute to figure out why.

I figured it out...I needed to allow "show message details" and also toggle "block content on lockscreen"; although the message content will still show if the phone is unlocked

You should mark your comment as your solution.  Tap the 3 dots next to  your comment and select "accept as solution".  This way a) others who may have the same issue will know there's a resolution and b) you won't get an influx of people who did not read all the foregoing comments, including your resolution, giving you unnecessary solutions.

I'm not seeing that option... I'll mark it as complete when I can

It seems you marked my comment as your solution, the one telling you to mark your own comment as a solution.  Once you mark a comment as a solution it can't be undone and the option no longer appears.
