Normally, if your flame burns orange, it's an indicator of impurities in the gas, or fuel/air ratio adjustment is needed.

BTU of LPG and NG have different Water Column (pressure/flow). If mem serves me, LPG is around 50hg W.C. and NG is 10hg W.C. or less. The regulator at the appliance and the air orifaces have to be set for the fuel type for proper volume and air/cuel ratio for a clean, proper sized flame. The Dual Burner probably has the wrong air oriface on the secondary boost burner. Mother has old Kenmoore gas oven and range top that was converted in '86 to LPG. Her range top exhibits the same as your burner. Bla k soot all over her cookware and around those appliances.

How did they fix it

They did not. Boy Howdy out in the sticks just put in something that seems to work. Problem discovered when regulator on LPG tank outside had to be replaced. System under pressure sincec1986. Built-in oven would barely light with match but not electric element. I surmised that the poppet valve style regulator had stuck on the seat. When I removed dust cap, I could see the poppet was hydolocked . Pressed down on the poppet and the gas jamming it closed released. Put it back in service, worked as it always had. What I learned in trying to find replacememt appliances, successful conversion from NG all depends if the unit was designed to accept or be converted to LPG from the get go. A regulator swap (adjust down if adjustable regulator) can make it just work, but not very efficiently. Air orifice has to be changed to achieve proper stoichmetric value (air/fuel ratio). Each fuel type requires a specific A/FR range to combust efficiently. This is also why you can't nust hook up a propane BBQ grille to NG. Just does not work without converrsion kit.

There is very lkttle market for residential LPG appliances, so your are limited in available choices. My recommendation is to just be mindful and live with it. Confucius say, "It is what it is." 😊
