Local Dimming Issue on Samsung 75QN90D When Subtitles Appear

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing a pretty frustrating issue with my Samsung 75QN90D, and I was hoping someone here might have a solution or advice.

The issue is that whenever subtitles appear on the screen, the TV’s Local Dimming feature reacts quite strongly. This causes a temporary over-brightening in certain areas of the image, especially on faces, which appear “blown out” (probably due to an automatic adjustment in the backlighting). This only happens when subtitles are present, making the image look quite unstable.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

• Lowering the Local Dimming to low: this reduces the effect, but the image becomes too dark, and I lose picture quality.

• Disabling Dynamic Contrast and switching to image modes like Film or Standard, but it doesn’t fully resolve the issue.

• I also tried increasing the brightness to compensate when Local Dimming is set to low, but it’s still not an ideal solution.

I’m getting a bit desperate because it feels wrong to have to limit the TV’s capabilities to avoid this issue.

Has anyone experienced this on this model or a similar one? Do you have any tips, specific settings, or ideas I might not have tried yet? Also, do you know if a software update could fix this problem, or am I stuck with it?

My TV is already up to date with the latest version (1120)
