QLED and The Frame TVs

Hello everybody!

I recently bought a new Samsung TV: the Neo QLED 50QN90C which I use as a monitor.

When I activate the game mode of the TV the luminosity of the TV got better but the colors seem to have got more bland-less vibrant or maybe the contrast got different.

The HDR does not seem to be on. It says HDR off in the settings that pop on the bottom.

Q: What is the issue? How can I get the HDR on?

I use a  HDMI 2.1, 8K60HZ/4K120HZ, 48Gbps, HDR cable and a RTX 4080 together with the TV.

1) Yes game mode changed the display settings (what a surprise 😑)

2) Settings >> Display >> Other settings (May be the wrong name) >> HDR mode

1) This is my third Samsung TV I used as monitor and I have other 2 Samsung Tv in the apartment.

No TV so far has lowered or increased its luminosity turning on/off game mode while brightness is being max out. So it is a surprise.

2)There is no Settings>>Display>>Other settings>>HDR mode

I have Settings>>Picture>>Expert Settings>>>>Auto HDR Remastering which is not grey out or Settings>>Connection>>Game Picture Expert>>Game HDR which is off and greyed out.

I checked with my PS5. It works with the console. The HDR is automatically on.

SO I have like this

Gaming PC:

Game Mode: On.

Gamma: BT.1886

Game HDR: Greyed out

Auto HDR Remastering: Not greyed out

Settings that pop on below:  FPS 144Hz

                                                       HDR off

PS5:

Game Mode On.

Gamma: ST.2084

Game HDR: Not greyed out

Auto HDR Remastering: Greyed out

Settings that pop on below:  FPS 60Hz

                                                       HDR on

If you hold down the play/pause button in game mode, the game mode menu pops up where you can change the picture mode. Also in the non-gamer "picture -> expert settings" menu you can play around with the options (eg colour tone makes a big difference).

My QN90D is brighter in non-game mode.

Regarding HDR, you need to turn it on in your operating system.

In Windows, you right click on the desktop -> select display settings -> turn on HDR

For some reason things look worse with HDR settings on from windows. Looked at images, movies and games. 😞

My screen is much dimmer in HDR, I tried it for 1 minute and then went back to SDR. 😄
