QLED and The Frame TVsIf I disconnect my laptop to bring is somewhere, when I plug it back in to this TV, the TV automatically enables Game Mode, which causes a black screen and the need to go through number of Windows Display Settings steps to bring the picture back. I have to do this literally every single time I take my laptop anywhere and dock it back home.
I don't want Game Mode on by default because that mode is less bright when I'm using the TV is a PC monitor.
Technically in the TV settings I have the Game Mode options of OFF, AUTO, or ON. But both OFF and AUTO both result in AUTO behavior as described above.
I contacted Samsung and their advice was horrid. The first thing they suggested was that the best way to keep Game Mode from automatically turning on, is to turn it on...because it can't turn on if it's already on. Wild.
The last couple of reps have told me I can only disable Game Mode by turning off ANY NET+ and Input Signal Plus. The former is fine. But I can't do the latter as it disables all sorts of useful display quality features when connected as a PC monitor.
The final rep told me the problem was that I'm not connecting to my TV using an HMDI 2.2 cable. The TV doesn't have HDMI 2.2 ports, and you can't even buy HDMI 2.2 cable anywhere on the planet yet as far as I can tell. The rep gaslighted and insisted I was wrong, while refusing to provide a link to such a cable.
So I'm at a loss. In my opinion this has to be a bug that I can't keep this mode from automatically activating every time I reconnect my computer. Even if I have to go into a technician menu or something, does anyone know how to keep this from happening anymore?

QLED and The Frame TVsHello! Thank you for reaching out! I understand how this can be inconvenient. This seems like it could've some sort of issue with the TV and the laptop, as the laptop may have a dedicated GPU, so the TV keeps thinking that it's for gaming and auto enables it no matter what. I would recommend making sure the TV is updated first. After that, you can try this, but I can't guarantee this will work.
Go to Settings > General > External Device Manager > Game Mode Settings.
Set Game Mode to OFF (even if it already looks like it is).
Toggle the input to another source and back.
If this doesn't work, the only other option would be to have a tech look into this also. You can also try and reach out on Microsoft support forums to see if anyone else is having a similar issue, just to rule out any kind of Windows issues.
Depending on your warranty, you will have a few options.
- If your unit was recently purchased, you can check with your retailer on their return/exchange processes.
- If you have an extended warranty you can reach out to them to have service set up.
- If you're within the one year warranty, you can Private message me or one of our moderators or you can call in directly at 1-800- 726-7864 with your full model and serial number to have service setup
- If you're OUT of warranty, you can use this link below to find a service center in your area.
