Hi,

So I recently tried to figure out how predictive text works on my samsung phone. Since I'm not logged in to my samsung account on my phone, I thought nothing was sent to Samsung from my keyboard while using predictive text.

Reading the privacy policy I find the information to be lacking:

"In addition to the information you provide, we collect information about your use of our Services through software on your devices and by other means. This information includes:

(...)

Samsung Keyboard information: The words that you type when you enable ā€œPredictive textā€. This feature may be offered in connection with your Samsung account to synchronise the data for use on your other Samsung mobile devices. You can clear the data by going to the ā€œPredictive textā€ settings."

I can't say whether predictive text, while turned on, is sending data to Samsung servers or whether it's just being stored locally (while not signed in to a Samsung account.)

Does anyone know?

Anything tangentially related to Google or Meta or the other big tech giants and probably many of the smaller ones too are all vacuuming up our data at a legitimately frightening pace. Check out Futo Keyboard. It's Louis Rossman's project. It has a stellar voice recognition implementation, All the features that I needed from Gboard or whatever else are present. All the voice dictation is done locally on your phone so you can rest easy without Any of the information you input going to any exogenous servers.
