Samsung internet browser location can't be updated

For about 3 weeks, the Samsung internet browser has been showing search results for places that are far away from me instead of the ones that are nearby. For example, if I search for Mcdonald's, it'll show me a location 30 miles away when there is literally ine right across the street. I don't know what caused this to start happening, but I have checked all location and permissions settings, I think.

This doesn't happen when using the Chrome app. In the Samsung internet browser app it has the option to change the "choose area" and below another option that says "use precise location" but when I click that it says " Can't update your location.... with a "learn more" link. When I try to follow the instructions and click on the lock icon next to the address bar, the instructions don't match up with what I see. I only see a list that says "privacy info" and shows how many ads were blocked and cookies info, etc. Google Maps has no problem tracking my precise location

Is there a way to fix this? I was gonna clear the cache/data or reinstall, but I don't wanna lose all of my bookmarks 😭

Please help!

Don't clear the data, only the cache or your bookmarks will disappear! It happened to me. Try checking in Samsung Internet settings (WITHIN the app with the 3line menu or settings menu)and look for LOCATION; see if the dot is checked and if it isn't this might help.

Clearing your cache and data should not cause loss of your bookmarks, as that's not the data it deletes.  Clear the cache first and see if that improves the situation.  If it does not, then you will have to clear the data. Basically, the data that gets cleared is the settings.  I do not see a way to export the bookmarks, but you can sync (I think that setting is on by default) with the Samsung cloud, so they should remain.

To clarify, SETTINGS》SITE PERMISSIONS 》at the bottom you will see camera, location and microphone permissions.

The OP is looking for a way for the location to be *corrected* not whether to give or not give permission to a site to access their location.  Once again, the data that gets cleared when you delete the app data on a browser are the settings and it logs you out.  It does not delete your bookmarks.  If you lost your bookmarks it was for some other reason.

Thanks, MelissaD! You were right. I wasn't going to risk losing my bookmarks. I just know that would have happened. Of anything, I would have tried to clear data using my old phone just to check, but you instructions for going in the settings to click the dot for permission worked. I don't know why there is that way and then the way I was doing it, which was going to the app settings permissions. I find it weird I have to go inside the apps in-app settings, like you suggested, to give permissions there as well. Oh well. Thanks again!

you are welcome and I am pleased I could help. I do know that feeling of dread to lose those Bookmarks you saved over time and can never get back!
