How do you turn off the auto-detect HDMI feature? Sometimes my Apple TV comes on and then the TV automatically turns on as well but I don't want the TV to do so. How do you turn off this feature?

Thanks,

Mark

The insane screen snatching defect was fixed, but that leaves 3 more. I want Samsung to know I am NOT HAPPY until these unacceptable defects are fixed.

1180 seems like a bizarre update.  It did not fix my HDMI Switch issue.  I haven't tried it with Anynet+ turned off on the TV because I need it for my soundbar, but with Anynet+ turned off on the PVR it still switches when the PVR wakes up.

I did not expect 1180 to fix the issue of my soundbar not turning on with the TV and the TV reverting to TV Speakers every time, but it has, although seemingly not for others.

This has all the hallmarks of a kneejerk firmware upgrade which suits some models better than others, but doesn't suit everyone.

I shouldn't have had to but I have surrendered to the HDMI Switch Fix which works for me, but it's a nonsense that I need to buy 3rd party hardware to fix a Samsung issue

I'm no legal expert but surely a TV of any brand, regardless of how it is being used, that takes it upon itself to switch over when the user does not desire it is simply Not Fit For Purpose and the manufacturer should be legally obliged to rectify, replace or refund?

Any manufacturer that just ignores the complaints of its customers does not deserve to continue to sell their products.

I don't believe that I am the only person whose issues have not been solved by 1180, and the fact remains that Samsung UK continue to stick to their "It's a feature, it's behaving as intended" line.  Well that simply isn't good enough and they should try taking the complaints of their customers more seriously.  It's called Customer Service.

@Alanw47, you are correct, and you aren't the only one who believes these TV's are not fit for use as intended. As far as I know, it's the only TV that has these problems. One wouldn't want a car that shuts off when it wants to, or a lawn mower that mows grass at different height depending on how the electronics "feel". Samsung knows these are undesirable defects, but their legal department advises them to "never admit it's a defect, always call it a feature". Well, consumers aren't stupid, and we know there are several remaining defects in these Samsung smart TV's.

Even the HDMI auto "fix" is not a fix, it's a workaround. You have to give up AnyNet to prevent your TV from grabbing any HDMI signal it encounters.

I'm in the market for a new fridge and a cook top. I promise you they won't be Samsung. All they're about is sales figures, not engineering, quality, or customer satisfaction.

user7lr3uBm5pA, search your full model code on Samsung.com, go to the product page, select Support then See All Support and the file will be on the page. Download and install via USB.

That is great. How do you get the 1180 update into the goldurn thing, when the update feature says it's already up to date at 1144 and offers nothing else?

Actually, in my earlier message, I was responding to the "Solution", which seems to be no answer at all.

After having spent a wasted 1/2 hour with Samsung "Support", and being told that the update v1180 didn't exist for our unit. I read to the end of this thread and used the Smart-Control version of the solution sequence, on our UN82MU8000.

Worked beautifully. Clean connects with new sources! It is hard to fathom how this tidbit isn't on a post-it in every support person's cubicle at Samsung. Typical big company with too many products and a constipated system for getting information to where it is needed, most likely. It was impossible to escalate our question to someone with a clue. Thank goodness that they, at least, have this forum.

This is the solution for the HDMI auto-detect

HDMI AUTO DETECT TOGGLE

The HDMI Auto Detect feature can be turned off on Samsung 2016/2017 TVs using the remote control by pressing a certain key sequence (either IR or Bluetooth remote works).

1.      Make sure TV is updated to latest firmware version
2.      Switch TV to TV source – HDMI may not work with BT Smart remotes. TV source works with either remote
3.     Using IR Remote: Mute + 7 + 2 + 9 + Exit
4.     Using Smart Control: Mute + Vol Down + Ch Down  + Mute

PLEASE NOTE: TV does not display any messages after you press the above key combination. This function is a toggle. So if you want to turn HDMI Auto Detect on again, press the same key sequence.

Hey guys, sorry for our delay in response. I have been doing some research with our specialists on this in order to find out about the steps posted. (And why we didn't know about them to tell you guys about it.) It appears as though our teams are working on adding a menu option or something similar to make this feature available in response to you guys talking about it. It’s not fully available yet (Hence the weird steps) as they are still testing and working on things so that’s why nothing was ever mentioned to us yet. Naturally, like with any other update, I can’t speculate on what all will be added/changed nor could I even guess when it would be released but it seems there is something in the works to address some of your concerns. There could be un-forseen issues when completing these steps, so be aware of that when testing it out for yourself. If you do run into problems after trying these steps it wouldn’t hurt to post about them here.
