Navigation buttons randomly too far away from eachother

So, my Galaxy Tab A8s Navigation buttons are further than a regular Galaxy Tab S4 which I'm more used too. Is

there a way to make it closer?

You can change them under display settings

How though? There isn't an option to make them closer together.

This may solve your issue. 

Display->Navigation Bar->Select the Button graphic then More Options.  From there you can select Button Position, center, Right or Left.  Right or Left will bring the buttons closer together either on the right or left side of the screen,.
