Washers and Dryers

Hi,

I just bought a Samsung 7.5 cu. ft. Front Load Gas Dryer with Sensor Dry (Model: DVG45T6000V) this past Monday, and I’m having an issue with the Time Dry Cycle.

When I set it to 20 minutes, it sometimes stops within 5 minutes. But if I restart it with the same setting right away, it then runs the full 20 minutes.

This first happened on Monday, and I thought it might be normal. But it happened again today (Thursday). It stops early the first time, but if I run it again immediately, it works fine.

Is this normal? Other cycles are working perfectly.

Thanks for any help!

Hello @userXiQoeCfSpP! Thank you for reaching out! I would recommend trying the information in the following link: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshoot/TSG10001001/#dryer-cycle-ends-too-quickly. Please let me know if this helps!

Hi, thanks for your reply! However, based on the information from the link you provided, I couldn’t find what I was looking for.

My concern is specifically about the Time Dry Cycle. From what I understand in the manual, this cycle has nothing to do with the moisture sensor. Could you confirm if that’s correct?

Thanks!

I think with gas dryers (of any brand) with a moisture sensor, the sensor overrides a timed drying cycle if it detects no moisture.  This prevents over drying and, hence, fires.  If your drying cycle stops 5 minutes early and there is still dampness, can you not just do a 5-10 minute cycle rather than the whole 20 minutes?  Many times residual heat does the remaining drying if the door is not opened.

Hi Realaud,

Thanks for your reply!

The issue isn’t that the dryer stops 5 minutes early—it’s that something unusual happens at the beginning of the cycle. When I set the timer for 20 minutes, within the first 5 minutes, the timer suddenly changes to 1 minute, shows the cooling sign, and then stops.

However, if I restart the dryer immediately with the same settings, it runs the full 20 minutes without stopping. And if I run another cycle after that, it also completes the full 20 minutes.

As you can see, once it stops that first time, it seems to work fine afterward. If the moisture sensor were overriding the timer, it shouldn’t run for the full 20 minutes at all, right? Also, this Samsung dryer’s minimum time setting is 20 minutes.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks!

that sounds like a defect in the timer.  I would call Samsung service and have them check it out while it's under warranty.

I believe there is a slight misconception about the Time Dry Cycle. When you select Manual Dry Cycles, Time Dry falls underneath this category. This cycle will run for a predetermined length of time and then stop whether the laundry is dry or not. The sensor is not used during this time.

In the troubleshooting link we provided. It covers details about if your dryer stops early. Unfortunately, those steps go over if you are using a sensor dry setting. If the time stops early and there are no error codes, we may have to let a technician take a look at the unit. If you require further assistance.
