I had the same issue with Samsung messages. I keep my phone and apps updated always, but one day, Samsung messages stopped working entirely, out of the blue. So I downloaded Google messages. This worked great for several months. I woke up this morning, now Google messages is not working. I am a pretty tech savvy person, I have gone through many trouble shooting steps. My phone is not old, it doesn't make any sense.
