Not receiving text message notification sounds

I am not getting notification sounds for text messages.  Would power saving prevent notification sounds?

Samsung Message.

Switch to Google Messages. Samsung Messages is going away so its glitchy.

I don't like spying Google.  Text worked so well on my A03 as far as notifications, now it seems with the app I would need to set a sound for each person that I text.  Why do things get changed when they are working so well?
