For some reason, samsung messages is syncing the names I have for my contacts to my moms phone. The only reason for this I have found is her being signed into my samsung account on her phone. The issue is that she has an iPhone, and thus can't sign into my samsung account on it. She also uses iMessages and not samsung messages. She is showing up to other people as "spawn point" (what she is in my contacts as) when she should only appear that way for me. My dad siblings also have her in their contacts (probably as something normal), and the contact names they have don't sync to my mom. I have no clue how it's syncing when we have different devices, and different messaging apps. We are on the same Verizon plan if that changes anything.
