message icon not showing unread messages

I've had the phone (galaxy a15 5g) for four months.  Up until 3 days ago, the message icon was showing unread messages, the phone icon was showing missed calls,  and the VM was showing message count.  Now, none of those indicate unread, missed and message count.  I have restarted the phone and I do have notifications toggle turned on.  Any thoughts?  Thanks

Go to device settings > home screen > toggle on app icon badges. Then restart your phone.
