Navigation bar not responding.

Hi 

Please I do not know why my navigation bar buttons suddenly stopped responding. Only the swipe option is effective now.

I can no longer minimize the screen, thereby preventing me from doing 2 things at a time on the phone. I have to close an app before I can open another. Kindly assist as this is really frustrating.  I have tried restarting ot countless times, placed it on safe mode but it persists.

What else can I do?

Hey, R29, thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. Not being able to use the navigation bar could definitely mess up your ability to multitask. I know you are having problems navigating, but are you able to get to your settings? Double-check the settings by using the steps below. Sometimes the system needs a "refresh" of its UI settings to recognize the button input again.
1) Go to Settings > Display > Navigation bar.
2) Switch the setting to Swipe gestures, wait a few seconds, and then switch it back to Buttons.
3) While in this menu, try changing the Button order to see if the icons become responsive in a different configuration.

Next, I would suggest wiping the cache partition to see if the system needs to clear out any temporary files. This will not delete any personal data, but we recommend backing up your data anyway. To do this, follow the steps below. 

1) Turn off your device completely.
2) Press and hold the Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously until the Samsung logo appears.
3) Use the volume buttons to highlight Wipe cache partition and the power button to select it.
4) Select Yes to confirm, then select Reboot system now once finished.

Cache partition wipe is no longer an option, since the February 2026 security patch.
